Hunger. Guess what? It's STILL a Problem.

From World Vision
It's that time of year again to fast and raise some money for hunger. Specifically in Africa. If you have read some of my previous posts from last year and possibly even the year before you know that every year my church fasts to raise money for some sort of cause. We are going back to hunger again because it is still a HUGE issue. While the numbers have gone down of how many children die under the age of 5 every day, they are still BIG numbers and it is something more people need to be aware about. This is why I am writing this post. Here is the problem:
22,000 children under the age of 5 die from hunger related, preventable diseases each day.
11,000 children under the age of 5 die from starvation each day.
The Horn of Africa is suffering from the world's worst famine in more than 60 years. Crops have died, food prices have skyrocketed, and refugee camps are overflowing. Millions have been displaced and risk dying from starvation or disease their bodies cannot fight off.
So now you know. So get out there and DO SOMETHING. Fight hunger. www.worldvision.org has lots of information about this issue and even more issues that they are fighting against. There you can sponsor a child, make a donation, and many other things to help raise awareness. You can also educate yourself so that you can raise your voice on behalf of hungry children and their families. The more people that know about this issue the more help we can bring.
PLEASE think about this and at the very least tell your friends and family so that they are aware. That doesn't take much effort at all and for all you know you could inspire them to take action and save some lives.

So I failed Lent... Already

This Vegan thing is so much harder than I thought it was going to be. I wasn't feeling so great the few days I was doing it and it takes so much planning. So I have changed my Lent challenge. Instead of being Vegan I am going to be vegetarian. I know I can do this.
I have also added reading the bible more so that is now apart of my lent challenge. That hit my during church today, I really liked what my pastor had to say about getting a better relationship with God.
Anyways, that is my lent update. I hope everybody else's lent season is going better than mine.
I hope to write soon and tell you about some of my spring break happenings.

Day 3

3rd day of being Vegan!! Although today wasn't very exciting. Last night I ended up having a veggie burger and some carrots and snap peas. Today I didn't have much to eat mainly because I slept in late so breakfast was kinda like lunch. Today I had a vegan English muffin with peanut butter and a clementine. Then for dinner I had japanese pan noodles with tofu.

I feel like I am doing pretty well but half way through I may have to go from vegan to just being vegetarian. We will have to see. Well that's all for today. Sorry my posts aren't very exciting.

So I lied to you...

Lent is actually 47 days, so I will have 45 more days after today of being vegan. Here is what I ate yesterday:
Breakfast:
- 1 Naked Drink
- 2 strawberries
-Some pineapple and some melon

Lunch:
- A salad with lettuce, kidney beans, gorganzo beans, carrots, peas, cous-cos, and sesame dressing.
-A Apple
-Pretzel crackers and hummus

Dinner:
-Vegetable sushi
-Vegan spaghetti

Today I had an apple and some peanut butter crackers for breakfast and the same lunch I had yesterday minus the apple. I am not sure what I am going to have for dinner tonight but something will be made. haha This will be much easier when I go home tomorrow for spring break because my house will have more things to eat and my momma will take me grocery shopping. So hopefully my recipes will get more exciting. I have some good recipes from a class I took last May so I am excited to make those and try new things as well!
I will update again tomorrow!! :D

40 Days and 40 Nights

Lent. It is something that I have done ever since I was really little growing up in a Presbyterian church. I always give up something that isn't too hard to give up like chocolate or fried foods. This year I am going VEGAN. For 40 days I will be vegan starting tomorrow. This means NO animal products at ALL. I am Pescatarian now so I am hoping that will help a bit. I have decided that each of those 40 days I will blog here to document how I am doing and what I am eating. It will probably take me a day or so to get good meals going but hopefully I can make some yummy things! So wish me luck! Tomorrow will be day numero uno! Until then...

Brad Paisley Virtual Reality Tour 2012

On Friday I went to Brad Paisley's Virtual Reality Tour. It was amazing and probably one of the best concerts I have been to. Scotty Mccreery was his first opener and sang seven songs off of his album. He was the winner of American Idol last year. He is only 18 but has a fantastic voice and is extremely cute. I am pretty much in love with him. Next the Band Perry came on stage. They are one of my favorite bands in country music right now. They sang about nine songs off their album.
Brad Paisley started off with a laser show, that continued throughout the concert. For every song he had different animations that he made himself. This included a star wars themed animation when he was introducing his band to us. Between some songs he was his funny old self cracking jokes about certain things he wrote his songs about. “All you Salt Lake City rednecks look so good in camouflage,” said the country star as he opened with “Camouflage,” off his latest album. Before the night was over, in a memorable 22-song set, Paisley would feature the love song “Ticks,” utilize veteran actor Andy Griffith on the giant video screen in a poignant version of “Waiting on a Woman” and pay tribute to a host of country greats from Reba to Johnny Cash in “This Is Country Music.”
He would share the stage with McCreery for a hilarious version of “Celebrity” and The Band Perry for his signature “Whisky Lullaby.”
He gave away a signed guitar to a young girl, danced around the aisles to get close to his fans and sang a song on a second stage to pay tribute to those “in the cheap seats where I sat as a teenager.”
It was hard to know whether to watch the video screen, where all sorts of wild things were happening, listen to the music, enjoy the animated audience dancing in the aisles or watch the laser lights that often played on the arena stage.
He even had a hologram of Carrie Underwood to sing with him for their song "Remind Me." This hologram fooled my friends and I though as we thought that Carrie Underwood was actually at the concert. If only she was, this just goes to show you what you can do with technology. haha
Brad Paisley finished with his song "Alcohol" after doing an encore with his song "Water" and diving into a pool of digitalized water.
It was a fabulous concert and I am so glad that I got to go! Here are some pictures from the event.

The First Post of 2012

Happy New Year!! Crazy that it is 2012!! The past year went by fast! I meant to post yesterday but this new year has already been crazy busy. I went to an awesome new years eve party hosted by my brother and our friend Blake. It was a classy party, so everyone dressed up all fancy like. After ringing in the new year there I slept over at my friend Alexis's house and had a wonderful time. Crepes were the first breakfast that I had for the new year.
This year I plan to study hard, make some lasting memories with friends and family, and continue to stay healthy and keep up on my pescatarian diet.
I wish everyone the best for the New year and hope you can all keep up on your own resolutions.
Happy 2012!! :D
