First Day Of Summer

Its officially the first day of Summer! While school has been out for awhile and I have definately gotten into a more summertime sort of groove I can now say that it is summer! These are some things that I definately want to do this summer:
  • Read as many books as possible
  • Go to Lagoon and Seven Peaks as much as possible because I have a season pass to both places
  • Do some Yoga and Stretch and Strengthen Classes
  • Go to the Sandy Ampitheater for some plays and concerts
  •  Go to other concerts
  • Scrapbook
  • Hang with as many people as possible before college
  • Have the Peruvian Park Reunion
  • Hopefully go to my aunts house with a friend for a long weekend
  • Go to Wolf Creek
  • Go to Snowbird
  • Celebrate my grandpa's 90th birthday
  • Watch shooting stars
  • Watch fireworks
  • See Fireflies
  • Swing
  • Watch a movie outside
  • Have a picnic
  • Watch a sunrise and a sunset
  • Dance in the rain
  • Spend all day long somewhere with a good friend
There are many more things to list but this is just a taste of what I want my summer to be like.
Sumertime is finally here
That old ballpark, man, is back in gear
Out on 49
Man I can see the lights

School's out and the nights roll in
Man, just like a long lost friend
You ain't seen in awhile
And can't help but smile

And it's two bare feet on the dashboard
Young love in an old Ford
Cheap shades and a tattoo
And a Yoo-hoo bottle on the floorboard

Perfect song on the radio
Sing along cause its one we know
Its a smile, Its a kiss
Its a sip of wine, its Summertime
Sweet Summertime

Its Just A Dream

WOW… I am a Hillcrest High School graduate. Many times I can’t believe it I feel as if I am floating in a dream. The whole graduation ceremony seemed like a dream. I couldn’t believe it that I was actually there graduating in my white robe that represents Hillcrest. Taking pictures with my friends all in their robes, all with our honor cords or other things that we have earned in the past years. Walking inside the E Center waiting for the ceremony to start. Walking in to a packed stadium filled with everyone’s friends and family. Listening to speeches and music that were inspiring and filled with hope. Almost crying but not quite because of being in shock. Walking up with my row to get my picture taken, hand over my card with my name on it, get my name announced, receive multiple congratulations, my diploma cover, many hand shakes, and another picture. Then walking back down to sit with my row, moving my tassel to the other side, and then throwing my hat up into the air. Walking out of the stadium not believing that it is over, turning in my gown, getting my actual diploma, and then going out to greet my family and friends.

Afterwards we headed to the cheesecake factory but after eating I felt kind-of sick. At first I was worried that I was going to miss grad night. I went home got ready for grad night anyways and then left. I picked up my friend and we headed to the sports mall where it was held. There I played tennis, Wally ball, got many pictures taken in the photo booth, watched people play minute to win it, ate, and just hung out with all of my great friends. It was an awesome night! I seemed more alive for that part of the night and not so much in the dream state that I was in earlier that evening. After partying it up I went home at 4:30 in the morning and slept till like 12:30 in the afternoon. It was weird to wake up the next day and believe what had happened.

I love my graduating class of 2010 and I am so glad that I had the opportunity to be apart of the class. I will miss everybody but I know we all have bright futures ahead of us and amazing things will be accomplished. I hope my path crosses with many of them in the future and I hope to hear of all their accomplishments!

CLASS OF 2010, WE DID IT!!!

Busy Busy Busy Like A Bee

So I have been super busy lately so the blogging has sort of gone downhill. Some of the exciting events that have happened lately are:
  • Testing. Which isn't so exciting but its a significant even that has taken up almost all of my time for anything in life. The past month or so has been filled with it.
  • My annual Spring dance performance, One Seed Of Hope, with my dance studio Virginia Tanner. This was my last performance ever with them, it was a great performance but also an emotional one.
  • Spring Fling which was 80s themed, we went to Dragon Diner (which is very good) and after the dance we went to a light show at Clark Planetarium which was so crazy!!
  • Getting things ready to graduate! There are so many things to do before it but I am getting excited!
Exciting things that are going to happen soon that I am sure to update you on are:
  • Senior Carnival
  • National Honor Society End Social
  • IB Senior Dinner
  • Academic Letter Breakfast
  • Senior Awards Night
  • Senior Dinner Dance
  • Senior Barbeque
  • Graduation June 2nd!!!
  • Grad Night
  • Yearbook Stomp
All events are graduation related or end of year related but I am super excited for them! This has been an awesome senior year and parts of me doesn't want it all to end. I have learned so much and made so many great friends during my high school years! On the other hand, other parts of me are ready to move on and figure out who I am supossed to be.
Hopefully I will have more time to blog more now, but for the moment this is all.

Flush Out Hunger

So I am starting to get ready for my church's annual spring 30 Hour Famine. This year, the “Fast” will be held April 24-April 25. The focus is on Hunger. 25,000 children under the age of 5 die every day. Through World Vision (which is the organization that encourages people all over the world to do fasts like this) and the 30 Hour Famine, that number had been getting smaller every year. A few years ago my church did a 30 Hour Famine focused on hunger just like this one but the number of children under the age of 5 who died every day was 28,000. So you can see that by doing fasts like these it really does help.

The 30 Hour Famine is a part of World Vision. All of the money that my church brings in with the fundraisers that we will do will go directly to World Vision to feed hungry children. $1 can feed a child for an entire day. My church’s goal is to raise enough money to feed two children for an entire year, which would cost $730. I believe that my church can do this and possibly we can even raise more money.

My church is doing a funny way to raise money but I think that it is a good way to raise money. We got a toilet and spray painted it purple and stuck our hand prints on it with different colors of paint. We call this toilet the Purple Potty and people in our church are passing it around to each other’s lawns. It sits in somebody’s lawn until they pay a fee to get it off their lawn. Once they have paid to get it off their lawn then they can pick someone else’s lawn for it to go to. People can pay Purple Potty insurance ahead of time which is $15 dollars to not have the potty come to them at all. My family hasn’t paid the insurance because I kind-of want the potty to come to our house so that people in our neighborhood can learn what we are doing and get involved. It hasn’t hit our lawn yet, but maybe it will soon!

Purple Potty

Here are some shocking statistics about Hunger…

  • 850 million people are hungry.
    • That is 13% of the world’s population.
  • Every single day, 25,000 children under the age of 5 will die from starvation and preventable, hunger related diseases.
    • That is 9.25 MILLION children dying every year.
  • 25,000 children dying is equal to:
    • The entire Salt Lake Valley dying each month (for those of you living in Salt Lake you can really picture this.)
    • 63 Boeing 747’s leaving and not returning every day.
    • 21 school buses driving away and not coming back EVERY HOUR of every day.

This is an incredible number of hungry children. In the past ten years, the number of dying children has dropped from 40,000 every day to 25,000 every day. That difference equals 13 school buses every hour.

Together, we can raise money and awareness to keep even more children alive. So please do your part and visit 30hourfamine.org to see ways you can help. Maybe you can get your church or people in your neighborhood and community to do a 30 hour famine to raise money too.

Some Days You Gotta Dance

Some days you just have to go and escape from it all. Some days you just gotta do dance! Whether I actually go and dance which has been a great thing for me to express joy, and to go and get away from the stresses of life. I love to dance and have been so blessed with the opportunties and fabulous people I have meet through dancing with Virginia Tanner Dance Co.
Or if I don't dance there are other ways to escape for a little bit. Just by hanging out with my friends or family I can clam down a little bit and just enjoy. A couple weekends ago I went down with a couple of my friends to Kayenta a little place outside of St. George. We had lots of fun making shirts and going on nice spring like hikes. The area is just beautiful and the hikes were a nice way to take in the beauty and appreciate the things around us. Here is one of my favorite pictures from the trip.
It was a little windy so our hair is a little wind blown.
This was a nice trip just to go down for the weekend and catch up with old friends and escape.

Live It Up When You Get The Chance
Cause When The World Doesn't Make No Sense
And You're Feeling Just A Little Too Tense
Gotta Loosen Up Those Chains And Dance

Ski Bum

This past weekend my cousin, aunt, and uncle were in town and we skied it up a storm! They came in on Friday after my family had celebrated Chinese New Year with a Chinese family that we are good friends with, we ate at a local Chinese restaurant except that their family ordered the food for us. Some of it was good stuff that I would normally order but other items were duck, fish, and shrimp in weird sauces. Anyways my cousin, aunt, and uncle  came and we all watched the Olympic Opening Ceremonies  in Vancouver. We then woke up the next morning after sleeping in a little bit and headed up to Alta. We all skied for a few hours and then my mom, aunt, uncle and I went in for lunch at Alta’s Rustler lodge and ate lunch with some journalists that were visiting Alta. Both of the journalists had grown up in the UK and had gone to boarding schools as children. They had some interesting stories to tell of the boarding schools that were quite entertaining. I also loved their accents, I love a good British accent! After eating with them we skied some more and then called it a day. For dinner my aunt and uncle took us out to this amazing restaurant up Millcreek canyon called Log Haven. The restaurant is in the prettiest location and inside of it is like a extremely nice log cabin. The food was delicious and was presented very well. They gave my mom, aunt, and I roses for Valentines day. Our waitress was a little crazy but other than that the place was magical.

We came home watched more Olympics and then went to bed so that we could rest up for another day of skiing. We skied three days in a row and it was some of the best skiing I had in a long time because of all the fresh snow that we got. I have been skiing so much lately that I have been starting to feel like a ski bum. ha ha not really but close. It was a great time with my family and I wish they could come out skiing every weekend!

I also went skiing last night at Brighton for the first time in a long time.  I hadn’t been night skiing in awhile and forgot how fun it is. My friend and  I skied around and even tried the half pipe trying to look like we knew what we were doing. ha ha. I am sure I looked stupid, but it was still fun!

Quote of the moment: super cool party people bid you a super cool adieu!
