Here are some more facts about water and to get everyone thinking about how serious this actually is.

The Math

$1= Clean water for 1 person for 1 year

One $5,000 well = clean water for 700 children for 7 years

5,000 divided by 700 divided by 7 = $1.02 per person per year

One $15,000 deep well in Africa = clean water for 2,200 kids for 7 years.

$15,000 divided by 2,200 divided by 7= $0.97 per person per year

*A hand pump lasts an average of 7 years before needing repairs.

So one dollar can really make a difference!

The Science

Drinking poop kills.

Nobody wants to drink poop but when water comes from a shallow well and the only place to do your business is a pit latrine...it happens.

Diarrhea vs. The Third Reich

Diarrhea kills about 1.8 million children per year.

H2O Challenge

This year for the fast at my church we are raising money and awareness about water. Many places especially in Africa don't have sufficient water to stay healthy. The water they drink is filled with Parasites and Pollution and causes blindness and Diarrhea. One child dies every 15 seconds from water related diseases, and that is 10,000 every single day! We are raising money to build wells in certain villages, and to educate the people about how to be more sanitary. 15 dollars can give clean water to one person for a whole year. My church is doing two things to help this cause out. One is we are doing a water challenge for two weeks where we fast from all beverages except water to see how important water is. We are starting this Feb. 15th and going till the 1st of March. The second thing we are doing is fasting for 30 hours like we do every year for different causes, and this fast is on the 28th of Feb. Who is that Girl?

My friends were telling me how I kind of look like Audrey Hepburn, so I put on some glasses and took a picture!

Living in the Moment and Looking at the Things I Have

So far the New Year has had me looking at all the things I am blessed with and not worrying about what can change or be different. I feel lucky to have great friends and a wonderful family that cares about me deeply. I am also lucky enough to see my sister go off to India and experience a wonderful internship there with Matri that works with HIV/AIDS to help people there to know how to prevent it and be safe. So far her trip has been filled with many amazing moments and also moments that really show you how lucky you are to live in the United States. The water there is very contanminated and every now and then the electricity goes out. The drivers there are crazy and the city is very crowded and polluted. But it is also a magnificent city where many different people live and where you can learn a lot from. I can't wait to hear more about her trip and the things she will do next.
I am also feeling lucky that I am able to dance as often as I do without anything preventing me to do so. I have recently heard so many stories of people around me who have had a serious injury preventing them to dance or do anything else they love. I am happy that there isn't anything preventing me from doing what I love, which is to dance. Without dance I wouldn't be half the person I am. Everytime I dance there are so many emotions I communicate and friends I dance with and teachers that inspire me to push myself further in the dance world. Dance is something I believe anyone can do and should do. I know it has changed my life!

Happy New Year!

Ha ha so I am a little late in writting this but IT IS 2009 THE NEW YEAR! I hope this year brings fabulous things and new things to try and do. My ulitmate goal is just to live life and focus on the little things life has to offer us. Really live each day to the last drop.

Bringing in the new year was fun, but a little weird also. I went over to my friends house and some other people were invited there also. We hung out playing different games such as Rock Band, Darts, and some other such. We even went up to flat iron to sled, and hang out there but there wasn't much snow and so some people got a little banged up. We came back and weren't sure what to do and a little while later a game of truth and dare got started, and got weird. Ha ha. Then we counted down to the new year and did some poppers. I ended up staying up till 3:00 with two of my friends just talking and watching the Incredible Hulk. It was a pretty fun way to start the new year. Today I am excited because I am getting a hot stone massage with my sister! And having a sushi dinner! YUM!

Christmas Vacation!

It is Christmas Break yahoo! Not sure what I am going to be doing but hopefully lots of fun stuff! I hope to hang out with lots of people, maybe even try something new and do all the classic chirstmas stuff! If anyone has any ideas of something fun to do let me know! Ha ha! I am in such a good mood, it is the greatest feeling christmas and having a period of relaxation! So for school I am in Key Club as I have probably mentioned before, or you already know. But anyways for Decembers project we decided to write letters for Macy's santa letter donation to Make a Wish Foundation. For every santa letter they recieve they will give one dollar to Make a Wish Foundation. As a Key Club we decided to get as many people in our school to write a letter to santa. We put letters in the teachers boxes asking them to have their classes participate in this and possibly give out extra credit for those who wrote letters to santa. We didn't expect as many letters as we got! It was insane! Yesterday after school we were there for awhile folding letters into envelopes and putting address labels to santa on them. We ended up running out of envelopes and labels! There are still three boxes of letters that we need to put in envelopes and address labels on! Crazy! We went to Macy's after doing that and dropped off two boxes full of letters into the big letter drop thingy they have inside of the store. It was probably 600 letters and that isn't even all of them! Man, it was crazy! I am glad that we are helping some child's wish come true though!
Well I hope everyone does something fun this break and if I don't see you or write on here again untill Christmas, HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Where is the Snow?!

So it worries me slightly that there is no snow and it is December 4th! Where are you snow, and what is stopping you from coming? Global Warming? Who knows? I really want it to snow because first of all there are really fun things to do in the snow, make snowmen, snow angels, snow forts, snowball fights, sleding, skiing, snowshoeing and many others. Second of all Christmas is not Christmas without the snow. So there is my little snow rant. So now everyone needs to pray for snow so that all of that stuff can happen, especially the skiing cause I have gone a couple of times, but the snow just isn't spectacular and you can't go on all of the cool runs. That's all for tonight, I am super tired even though it is super early. I hope everyone is doing well.
